pledging a fraternity as a junior

by: LateToTheParty

So I am a sophomore now and wasnt able to attempt to pledge any fraternities due to finances. How ridiculous would it be for me to try to rush my junior year? on a scale of 1-10

It's been done before by people. You won't get much use out of swaps unless you're looking into hooking up with freshman girls. Many of the top fraternities are pretty secluded between pledge classes, meaning that you'll mostly only be friends and hang out with your own pledge class intead of other ones. This doesn't go for ALL of them, just most. So, basically you gotta be cool with being buddied up with freshman. I'd say go for it though. Everyone needs to experience fraternity life, it's much better.

Thats why I've considered even trying to rush because i regret not trying freshman year or this year. But what houses will even consider me and how bad does it look that I'm so old and just now trying to get involved in greek life?

I mean it does look bad. No its not impossible to get a bid as a junior at a mid tier or even a bottom tier if you really jut want to be Greek. But there's almost no chance of you getting into a top tier fraternity.

In the end it just matters how much any fraternity likes you. If you're a cool guy and look like you can represent a fraternity well, then you could go anywhere. Fact is, you'll never know if you don't try. Rush the big names: KA, Beta, Sigma Nu, SAE, Fiji, Theta Chi, and Sigma Chi. Also rush other good fraternities like Lambda Chi, Sig Ep, Phi Delt, and Pike in case you don't get a bid from any of the big names. I'm sure you'll get a bid from at least one of those eleven fraternities, all of which you could be proud of and have fun. Good luck to you man

If you fit in with them they want to take you, top middle or bottom tier.

The only thing is your first friends will be freshmen, and some situations make me awkward, pledging and doing choirs for guys younger than you, but worth it in the end.

Also after pledgeship you will probably then hang out with guys your age

You can rush in the Spring as a sophomore. Give all the fraternities a fair look. My boyfriend is not in a 'top tier' and his brothers are awesome! I'm not sure why the top tier always need to remind people they are TOP TIER. What one person is looking for in a fraternity is not the same as the next guy. You'll get a good feel during rush events. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
