by: TransferIm a transfer student coming in from a small school in Ga. What are considered to be the "Top Tier" fraternities? and will me being a transfer hurt my chances at getting a bid?

This Big 6 debate is ridiculous. The 6 best in name are never going to always be the actual 6 best at any given time so why do people insist on trying to make it a permanent list? Really the divide between what fraternities are good and the ones that aren't is significant. Its basically that half the fraternities are good, have at least 70 guys are involved and have good parties and the other half that bring nothing of any importance to the table. So yeah KA, SN, SX, Beta, FH, and SAE are all really good but so are Theta Chi, Sig Ep, Sigma Pi, ATO, Lambda Chi, and Fiji and I'd say that all of those fraternities are top tier fraternities as well. Even Pike, Phi Tau, Pi Kappa Phi, and Phi Delt are good just smaller. The rest are fraternities like TKE, Theta Xi, Kappa Sig, DTD, Delta Chi, Delta Sig, AGR, that don't bring anything to the table. So if you really wanted to break it down into a top, middle, and bottom tier you have 12 legitimate top tier fraternities, 4 middle tier fraternities, and the rest are pretty much all bottom tier fraternities.

You've gotta be a Farmhouse. But there is no way Theta Chi, Lambda Chi, Sig Ep, Sigma Pi, Pike and ATO are anywhere near as good as KA, Beta, Sigma Nu, Fiji, SAE, and Sigma Chi. They're alright but they are not Top Tier. And FH bottoms.

I agree that only a farmhouse would put FH with any top group. KA, Beta, Sigma Nu, SAE, and Fiji are above all the others sure, but you can't put Sigma Pi, Pike, or ATO anywhere near the same playing field as Theta Chi, Lambda Chi, or Sig Ep. Those are easily middle tiers, but most would definitely classify OX, LXA, and Sig Ep lower top tier along with Sigma Chi. Face it, SX isn't on the same ground as KA, Beta, SN, SAE and Fiji.
The tiers should be classified like this: Top Tier 1-10, Middle Tier 11-20, Bottom Tier the rest.

Referring to my last comment, this is how I'd rate:
Upper Top Tier
KA, Beta, Fiji, Sigma Nu, SAE
Lower Top Tier
Theta Chi, Sigma Chi, Lambda Chi, Sig Ep, Sigma Pi(More of an upper mid tier but I needed a #10)
Upper Middle Tier
Farmhouse, Pike, ATO, Phi Delt, Pi Kapp
Lower Middle Tier
Phi Tau, AGR, Delta Sig, Phi Kappa Psi, Da Tee Da
Bottom Tier
Everyone else

This is purely based off of the 2012 freshman pledge classes:
ΚΑ, ΣΑΕ, ΣΧ, ΒΘΠ, ΣΝ, ΦΓΔ
ΑΤΟ, ΘΧ, ΛΧΑ, ΣΦΕ
You can argue this all you want but it's the truth, this is coming from two girls in top sororities that are freshman the top four are all you ever hear the freshman girls talk about.

That's a pretty solid ranking. I'd either drop down SX or move up ΘX simply because Sigma Chi had one of their worst pledge classes yet and Theta Chi had their best. Also, WTF is up with FH? They're rolling kinda deep in AGD, ADPi, and Chi O which are all top 5 sororities. I hate FH as much as everyone else and I literally don't understand this.
I've also gotten this from some girls I'm friends with in AGD, KD, and ADPi

Since people decided to bump for no reason I'll add a relevant post to this thread.
Updated, and in my opinion list of tiers (fraternities in each tier are in no order)
Best: Sigma Nu, Theta Chi, Beta, KA, FIJI
Upper Tier: SAE, LXA, Sigma Pi, ATO, FH
Middle Tier: Phi Delt, Pike, Phi Tau, Sig Ep, Pi Kapp

Good list. Yeah I don't know why someone brought back this post from over a year ago. Probably trying to bring back old ranking when their fraternity was ranked better. Still, your list is accurate.

but it's probably more like 6 or 7 top and another 8 or 9 spanning the middle tier.
