rushing as sophomore
by: WonderingIf I went through formal recruitment this year and it didn't go as wanted, and I got a bid, but dropped out the week after bid day, what are the chances I get a different house or any other house I liked next year if I rush again as a sophomore?

I don't think dropping your current sorority will directly hurt your chances if you go through recruitment next year. However, just realize that rushing as a sophomore, you may be automatically dropped by some sororities just because of your year. I think some sororities really only give bids to freshman.
If you don't feel your current sorority is right for you after having given it a fair chance, drop it. Trust me. Don't do what I did and stay stuck in a sorority that you really don't like.
Keep your grades up this year, get lots of volunteer hours, and be involved in clubs on campus!! These things are really important if you decide to go through rush again next year.

There is definitely a chance you could get a bid as a sophomore. The issue is where. If you dropped out of your sorority this year because it was bottom tier, don't bother rushing again because you will more than likely end up in a different sorority in that tier. Even if by the end of freshman year you know a ton of people in a higher tier sorority, there is a good chance they will drop you because of your year. Be prepared for harsh and unfair cuts. But if you go in with an open mind and a good resume, you could end up with a bid at the end of the week.

Sororities are not organized to be like colas. You don't get to try one and, if you don't like it, try a second one the next time.
How will women in the sororities feel when they see you at formal recruitment again? They might believe you'll drop their home after one week should they offer you a bid. What sorority wants to deal with that karma?
Heed the wise advice others have given you here regarding next Fall's recruitment; your cuts then may feel harsh but they will be fair.

If she goes into rush next year with a higher GPA it could increase her chances of getting a bid. However, I don't know how particular certain sororities are about sophomores and if that would hurt her chances.
