"we have __ spots left"
by: Fall RushAt formal rush tonight, Fiji, ΣN, and ΘX all told us that they "had only about 4 spots left" in their pledge classes. Is this true? Are they actually full and just saying that because they have to?

Fiji will usually give out at least 4 more during formal rush since they don't mind huge pledge classes and therefore don't have a number cap.
Theta Chi will probably only give 2 or 3, if that, because they have a hard cap that they stick to. One of their old rush chairmen once told me that they'll never bid over 55.
Sigma Nu varies. One year they might be more open to numbers like Fiji, and the next they'all be strict like Theta Chi. It just depends on the rush chair.
My advice is to hit all 3 in order of preference and take the first bid you get, if you get one.

Monday was the first "formal rush" night. There was an orientation and a chance to talk to almost every IFC fraternity on campus.
