Oh no they hazed! I hope nobody's feelings got hurt! Maybe those new members shouldn't have left their safe space...

The mom posted that her daughter said she was taken to an off-campus apartment where she was 'forced' to do shots and everyone got drunk and then drove back to campus. A few other things too, all centered around drinking. Mom should not have turned to facebook for crying out loud because a screen shot got posted everywhere and the greekrank page blew up and anonymous people including non-greek trolls are piling on looking to make a fight to take down the whole chapter, likening it to Penn State. So much stupid happened all the way around.

No. It is not part of being in an established organization. Hazing has no place in Greek life. It is a military thing to harden up soldiers who will be potentially fighting for their lives and ours. In fact, fraternity hazing only started after WWII when men who had fought in the war were able to start college and they actually introduced the ideas of pledging and hazing into their chapters because it's what they were familiar with. No fraternities had that sort of thing before then; you were bidded and initiated. Documented fact in every fraternity history. It has gotten ridiculous these days. Hazing will bring down every single fraternity and sorority in the nation in the next 10 years for good if we don't police ourselves. Penn State anyone?

I like to stalk y'all's pages for entertainment. But on a more serious note,
Let's try to keep in mind:
Bid Day is on a Saturday. Some sororities (KD included) throw parties and let their new members (or in this case force them to) drink.
KD did NOT go on an overnight new member retreat, instead, apparently they partied and hazed the new members by forcing them to drink AND get in cars with girls that had been drinking as the drivers.
On SUNDAY, a day that the University/KD Headquarters/Anyone else you would need to contact with immediate concerns about this would be CLOSED, the mother felt that she had nowhere else to turn to. Essentially, no one was answering their phones or emails, and she decided that the Facebook page would have to be her last resort. Please keep in mind the severity of the situation-- someone could have been injured, or worse, died.
I think the mother did the right thing hands down. If I had a daughter who had just pledged and informed me that she was being forced to do these things, I probably would have done the same thing.
Of course, as far as KD's punishment, I can most likely say that it will probably be minor if there is any at all. This house gets away with a lot and that is the reason they do these sorts of things.

Not sure, but probably not. Unless their national is keeping it quiet.

Nothing happened because the troll who posted this (and posted the same thing at UGA and a few other sites to try to draw y'all into the drama) has been called out on lies and false stories, and the Bama people are over it.

From what they are saying over there, KD isn't in trouble for anything, because nothing that bad happened.

No idea what the deal was with the mom or the girl. My guess is that the mom caught her being drunk somehow, she exaggerated a story, and the mom, being concerned about her angel, ran with it.

Thank goodness the trolls stay over there and off this site.
