2017 bids being wrong
by: JoeI am a parent of current freshman who recently went through 2017 rush week. Up until Tuesday night she was on the list for 10 sororities and when she received her call on Wednesday morning she had been dropped by all of them and the only one she got called back for was one she dropped. She ended up dropping out but was told later from sophomores and juniors of a few mid-level sororities that she was on the list to next round and they are not sure what happened. We have been hearing rumors of bids being wrong in the computer system (mainly for out of state girls). Has any one heard of these issues?

I wondered about what happened with my daughter also....she put 8 in order of her preferences after "sisterhood" round, then got her top 2 for pref. She went to parties, her first choice house had a girl that was rushing her and was with her most parties literally told her " I can't wait for you to run to our house tomorrow and I am going to make sure your my lil sis..etc etc " --- fast forward to bid day -- got 2nd choice. ( I think we are all grateful she got second, and nothing at all! And is a good group of girls also!!
Is it possible to have your first choice rank you say # 60 out of 80 spots and your #2 Have you up higher on their list and the computer just does that? My daughter just was stunned to be basically told she was "in" and this happens. I am just grateful she got a bid to a group she likes. Also, when ranking those 8 it was #2 on her list. I am sure plenty of girls went to pref with # 5 or even lower on their list after sisterhood round ...but we are still perplexed. We are out of state also.
Anyone have insight to this?

Ok, then she was not high enough on their list...then her second choice she for sure was? Ive read about houses having to "add" members bc of the system. Not use if I'm communicating what I'm trying to say...
Is it possible to go to pref and be totally cut? It's a freaking miracle anything works out! It is so hard to understand this system and I was Greek in the horse drawn carriage days!
Still hard fior my daughter to understand-- to have these conversations with this girl she loved and they were so emotional that both my daughter and this cute member were literally tearing up. The girl may have been crying from exhaustion- not bc of my kid!! Just grateful it's over and she's with a good group. -- I told her yesterday what I keep reading - trust the process. They're all darling girls!

I'm in a sorority and I know after going through some names that were put in a weird order on the list but they were all fixed by sisterhood to my knowledge. The computer can be really weird sometimes but they try to be super through for bids to be passed out so I don't think she would have gotten her second choice by a computer mistake.
Also girls can get dropped from a majority of the sororities for a multitude of reasons or just not quite being high enough on the list.

Joe, that was their way of being kind to your daughter. Blaming the computer is code for "Bless your heart..."
There was something that triggered a drop from 10 to 1. Grades? Did she talk about partying/politics/religion/boys/money? Has she made a bad reputation for herself? Was she rude because she wasn't hiding the fact she'd only accept a bid from certain chapters? Was she overconfident in a legacy status? Does her social media look bad? Was she missing recommendations?

The good old days involved certain chapters keeping many, many girls up until pref, then dropping them. The girls had dropped other houses earlier in the week and had no where to go.
RFM has certainly leveled the playing field and strengthened all of the chapters. Looking at Auburn now vs the good old day???! No comparison.
