are rec letters really necessary?
by: nervouspnmAt cwe in the sorority breakout session we were told you have just as good of a chance of getting a bid w/out recs as someone who got their own, because if a sorority wants you they will find you one. But a lot of people say if you don't have a rec, then you won't get in that particular sorority. Which one is true??

Get your recs. The girls who bothered will have an advantage over those who didn't. It shows they are really interested in us and they care, plus it is a lot of trouble to have to go get recs like that so we only do it for the few girls we absolutely love, love, love. If you are one of the many, many pnm's we are on the fence about and you don't have a rec and other girls do then they are getting the invites or the bids, not you. If you care about having your best chance you will get your recs.

I got recs for a lot of the sororities at Auburn and ended up in one that I did not have a letter of rec for. It is on here considered to be an upper middle sorority but seriously tiers do not matter. If you can get them, great. If not, don't worry about them. Much love and good luck!

I would make sure you have them. Alums are flattered to write them and don't mind. Panhellenic will tell you you don't need them, but some sororities on the national level require them. Doesn't matter how much the sisters love and adore you if the rec isn't there, the chapter must cut you. Good luck!

Get your recs! Like most people said it shows that you put in effort but it also helps to get the sororities pumped to meet you! Who wouldn't want someone to write about all of their great qualities and achievements? It will also help us pair you (in the later rounds) with a sister who has common interests in turn making you feel more relaxed and more comfortable. Even if you don't know any alumni from a sorority you can usually just find a social media account for an alumni chapter. That's what I did with a few and they were thrilled to help me out! Moral of the story: get your recs

Get the recs. If you can't be bothered to spend some time securing recs, will you have the time for a sorority? Show the sororities that you find membership in their org valuable enough to do the preliminary work of getting recs. After all, the vast majority of sorority members had recs when they rushed. Did you ever stop to think that by not getting recs you were sending the message that you don't need recs because you are more special than them?
Don't count on a sorority getting a rec for you pref round, because without a rec you may not make it to that sorority's pref round. A low GPA and no rec are the two easiest reasons to drop a PNM from the invitation list. If it comes down to one last place on the list, and all things are fairly equal except PNM 1 has no rec and PNM 2 does, PNM 2 will get that last spot.
Some sororities have a national rule that every girl they pledge must have a rec.
