are we eligible to get houses now?

by: aubie's bae

I heard a rumor that the woman who had been donating money to auburn to stop us from getting sorority houses recently passed away, so we are now able to get houses. does anyone think this could be happening soon? i've also heard that some sororities are already saving up to build houses

After having lived in our dorms for over a month and just having visited a big SEC school in an adjoining state....we're missing out...big time! There is NO comparison of our dorms to these beautiful homes. We need to make a change and bring Auburn up to the rest of the SEC!!

since everyone is saying there was a vote and it was voted down, when's the next time sororities can vote on this?

has to bring it up and each sorority votes on it as a whole, not an election by each member. IN other words, whatever the majority of your sorority wants is what the vote is, not individual voting. You also have to have a place to put a house (property bought by the sorority and Nationals do NOT pay for any of this.Alumni donations and lots of raising money events to look forward to. Many groups allow chapters to borrow money and pay it back as a loan with interest) As for the houses, each sorority is also responsible for that cost also. There's a lot more that goes into this than just the fact it would be fun to have a house. Each person would be responsible for the cost for the length of time they are there, whether you live in the house or not. If you live in the house, that is a rental fee to pay on top of the other loan payments.

Each chapter would vote would come from your House Corp and your nationals and then the chapters would need a majority vote at council, not just what the chapter members wants

Everyone's sorority housing situation is better than ours. We do need to make an improvement. Houses would be great!

No doubt this puts us way behind our competing SEC schools. Need to change!

Pure rumor! We need to find out how we can get houses. Have you seen what all other SEC schools have?

If you want houses, go to another school. The dorms are nice enough and dues are affordable. Repeating like a robot over and over again how inferior Auburn sorority life is to other schools isn't going to change anything.

This is such BS! So tired of hearing about this "old lady" that is a figment of someone's imagination.

We need to get a movement to get houses built. We continue to fall further and further behind other SEC schools!

How are we falling and further behind? Are we dumber/are other schools pulling-in students with better test scores?

Our sororities continue to make quota and above. We added two sororities in ten years.

Have you asked sorority members at other schools how much they pay for sorority housing, repairs, meals, house parents, insurances, security, incidentals? Do you truly understand the large start-up costs and square footage sizes required for meeting/sleeping/eating spaces? Is some other school's 400-member sisterhood appreciably closer and/or better simply because it has a house?

Let's say after 4 years of school you, and a woman from your sorority who attended big house school, become neighbors and you both join your sorority alumnae group in Hawaii. Will big house girl complain your Hawaiian sorority alumnae group is too small because hardly anyone lives in Hawaii? No, she will be glad that you, her sorority sister, are there to help her start a new and exciting chapter of life!

Probably shouldn't go into the test score discussion....

Dues are not vastly different and it's a totally different COLLEGE experience. Sure, it's the same afterward. It's about the COLLEGE experience. We could have chosen to go to a community college and that is not the same as the large University experience. You make very strange arguments.

I'm tired of the 'old lady' BS, too! We need to get out of dorms and into houses. I know it won't happen before I leave, but I would be willing to pledge some money.

I'm guessing the old lady thing is BS, but we do need to move ahead and figure out how the sororities can get houses.
