tri sigma

by:

Okay guys this is a legitimate question. I'm considering joining Tri Sigma, but if I join the new sorority on campus, will people automatically think I'm "weird" or a "reject" for not joining one of the already established sororities? Like will girls in other sororities and guys in fraternities not want to associate with anyone in this sorority because they assume we're all "weird"? Or should I try doing COB in the spring?

also I know i shouldn't care about what others think about me but i just don't want people to judge me based on the sorority i'm in without them getting to know me and not wanting to because i'm in tri sigma

Think about it tho...would you judge someone for what sorority they are in? What kind of a horrible person would do that? Do you really want to give this hypothetical and horrible person so much power over your life that they dictate whether you are going to join a sorority?

If you are wanting an organization based on the "image" of 2-3 Greek letters, you may wish to rethink your priorities. Sororities provide members with some social opportunities, but more importantly create women of character by developing skills through service and philanthropy.
2016 Auburn Recruitment was especially brutal. All sororities cut deep; pretty girls, smart girls, fun girls and legacies were dropped. Over 170 started the process and ended without bids. Auburn does not have sophomore quotas so very few of those PNMs got houses. Many of these are the outstanding young women who will be nucleus of this tremendous new colony.

I agree with Mid Tier Alum.

Your chances as a sophomore are not good. I recommend you look into the colony recruitment because it's an incredible opportunity that you will get if you are lucky and accomplished and the national representatives select you as one of the members of their charter class.

Getting a bid to Tri Sigma is not going to be easy. There are many accomplished, intelligent, and beautiful women who will vie for those spots.

I have personally never met anyone at Auburn who is that judgmental. If they are, the issue is in their own head.

Being part of a colonizing chapter would be an amazing experience and an opportunity that few women have. Leadership roles and assisting in building a sorority will provide a skill set on a college resume that is invaluable.

Think it through. If you are up for becoming a leader and growing the community, then go for it.

You are way too concerned about what other people think, and that can be understandable but you should learn not to let what anyone else thinks hold you back from what you are interested in and what you want to do. If you are interested in looking into Tri Sigma you should really go to one of their information sessions and sign up for an interview! Do it!

No one in their right mind is going to judge you off of the letters that you're wearing. If someone would do that...would you want to be their friend? I wouldn't and I hope you wouldn't either! Every sorority has all different types of girls and that's why it's impossible to make judgments like what you're afraid of. I understand that this is all new and scary and you're nervous, but don't let that hold you back from what you really want to do! You don't want to regret not going through recruitment and meeting friends and being a member of a sorority for the rest of your life because you had an irrational fear. Trust me.

Besides all of that, Tri Sigma is going to get a lot of support from the Greek community because everyone wants them to do well...if Tri Sigma doesn't do well it will reflect really badly on Auburn and no one wants that. So no, no one in the Greek community is going to be anything but welcoming to the new house.

Just say your grandma was a Tri Sig and that she knows Carrie Underwood. That will be a good enough excuse.

Yeah seriously with Carrie Underwood being so prominent, who could think badly of any Tri Sigma? If anything, people might ask if you could help them meet her lol

You should be more concerned with your own personal reputation at Auburn. Are you a cute, sweet, fun girl? That's all you need for people to want to be with you. Your letters won't make you seem better or worse than you already are.

Look at it this way: Every other sorority chapter at Auburn had to start somewhere too. Personally, I think it would be cool to be a charter member and put my mark on the chapter.

So agree with this.

People need to get over placing importance on other peoples opinion of them. Do whatever feels best for you!
