why is everyone so against self-ranking? i don't get what's so bad about it when the only people who know how good/bad the sister/brotherhood is are simply those who are in it and experience it firsthand.. how can someone else outside of it judge those relationships? i understand that self ranking is bad if you're putting down other houses, but if you're simply trying to just promote your house in a positive way, what's the harm?

Everyone has biases when it comes to their own house especially so you can't really describe your frat/sorority from a neutral standpoint and that colors opinions. Which generally makes one sound better than they actually are

Because self ranking is what makes people think Gphi is above Tridelt and Theta.

sorry, hot new pledge classes are what make people think Gphi is above theta. I haven't heard anyone say they're above Tri Delt. Theta wasn't very impressive this year, for either PC. Start getting some girls that are similar to your 2012 PCs and you'll be back in business
