pippin

by:

Pippin was the best show. Millie was really good, Westside and Hairspray. There wasn't a bad one. I'm just speaking about placing. I don't see the hate for Pippin. Chicago should have won last year but this year they did it right. Except DG. They always seem to place. I mean Annie was good, but Westside and Hairspray truly stood out to me. Honestly this year I was very impressed overall with the shows.

I agree with your observation. I thought the AXO lead from Westside Story
should have won best Female Vocalist. Her songs were by far the most
difficult to sing....Westside is almost an opera----and she did an excellent
job in performing. Pippin was the best, Millie second, and then I feel that
Westside should have been third. Hairspray fourth. It was a great show--
and all the performers should be congratulated for the time and effort that
they put into the show. I was amazed at how professional it was.

i would switch hairspray and west side. yeah west side's lead was amazing, but hairspray kept it exciting the whole way through, which is not easy to do. but either way they both put on great shows!

I am going to give it to you straight. I am not going to discredit anyone's talent here like some other people have, I believe you should not have to bash others to make someone else look better. I do not think that the AXO girl should have won. That is not saying that she is not talented. Honestly, I thought the Tri Delt from pippin would have considering she's practically already on Broadway. However, the girl who won did completely deserve it. All three of them did, respectfully because they all attempted to match the style of show. But here's why the Axo did not, coming from someone who knows music theory, so I can be somewhat credible: her accent at times made her a little flat, she did not have any stand out/ solo numbers (her one actual solo still had backup singers and didn't have many flashy notes; likewise when singing a duet it's easy to lean on the other person's vocal ability as well to cover mistakes), her final note "Goodnight" should have technically been higher, but her male lead could not reach that so she had to compensate, and stylistically and acting wise she did not go full out (during "I Feel Pretty" I think the judges would have enjoyed more energy and to see her actually believe it rather than try to be perfect vocally), also in comparison the soprano from GPhi hit much higher notes than her, which may have thrown the judges off. Again she does have a beautiful voice and a better character for her would have been Christine from Phantom

Also saying that she should have won because she had more difficult vocals is bs. The girl in Tri Delt had way harder vocals, and the ones in Millie aren't cake either, but those girls made it look easy because they know what they're doing. Last year people said the girl who played Elphaba in Wicked should have won because she had harder vocals, but if it's not properly executed or healthily done then that doesn't mean anything. Again, I am not bashing, the show is over and people need to accept it and move on. All of the lead women were fantastic this year (the girl playing Lola in Damn Yankees was great as well as Annie). So everyone should be damn proud of themselves and not try to bring others down. Only those who have to bring others down to feel successful are the unsuccessful people in life.

Now the reason why the Gphi won was mostly because of her stand out numbers and acting ability. The Tri Delt (though still amazing) was a little inconsistent with her vocals and did not fit the jazzy feel needed for the character, though she tried, and I will give her credit. But the GPhi had that jazzy feel needed for her show and pulled it off all while acting at the same time (which is actually pretty hard). She didn't have many mistakes and believed in what she was saying. She stood out to the judges most likely because of ther heart and determination showed not only in herself but in her character. Her vocals were consistent and healthy which probably put her a little above everyone else. I applaud all these women for getting up there and leaving it all on the stage. These three were definitely the top performers, but it's hard to fully compare all of them as they all sang in very different styles.

That show wasn't as good as the others, but it was only one show so I wasn't trying to single them out.

it was the hardest thing to listen to. I have some theory under my belt, and just for funzies I held out my tuning app on my iPhone, and the entire time they were almost always in between notes, or an entire half step sharp. I'm rushing next quarter, and my friend said that these were broadway quality, and most were, Thoroughly modern millie, Hairspray, Westside Story, and others were great.... but I was ready to leave after the first number alpha phi had..... it was painful
