explain the flag thing please

We do want the flag flying. The decision to not fly the flag was a misguided one made by 6 individuals in our student government. It does not reflect the views of our school or our Greek community. We all love this country and what it stands for here and we are grateful to all the men and women who have risked their lives or passed away trying to defend our flag.

Regarding those 6 individuals, although they made a mistake, they are still our fellow students who were just trying to make the school a better environment. They had good intentions, but they just went about it in a poor way. We stand by them and hope the rest of the country realizes that they are just some people that made a mistake and should not be the enemies of the public.

It was in one room, the ASUCI government lobby, which banned all flags. 6 students are not reflective of the student body. Sure, I don't agree with them that the flag is uninclusive . It represents freedom. You don't have to agree with every U.S. policy to celebrate a flag. But let's worry about the real issues in the world and move on with our lives. Yes they are wrong but seriously how ridiculous was the outcome.

They were wrong. It was an unnecessary resolution. But you know what? The legislative branch passed something stupid and the executive branch vetoed. It was a perfect example of how the democratic system is supposed to work.

Entitled, arrogant asses? It's people like you who need to calm down on your overly emotional patriotism and see that this was a good opportunity to have an open dialogue about a lot of issues. No. What we got from people like you (who vilified an entire student government and the student body) were threats. Threats that were very real and serious enough for the police to increase security and cancel a town hall meant to facilitate a discussion between ASUCI and students/the public.

You want something to get angry about? Get angry about the fact that tuition is being raised while UC enrollment goes up. Get angry about the fact that despite everything the UC campuses churn out (UCI researchers just developed a way to unboil eggs), less than 10% of our budget is funded by the state. Get angry that in the midst of all of this, the UC Regents just approved a 20% raise in salary for all UC Chancellors (including our own Chancellor who just got hired).

I think the worst part is that UCI students are getting death threats
