Does anyone agree with me that ranks do matter, but not to the extent that everyone makes it out to be? I think ranks do matter in that it brings out competition which can be positive (like sports, philanthropy, events). For example, because a sorority wants to be competitive in the ranks, they work hard on their philanthropy not only because it's for a good cause but because in order to be top or middle, you have to do a good job on it. Its a nice extra incentive.
But when people are close minded towards other Greeks solely based on their affiliation, I don't get it. If you like someone or want to be their friend why does it matter? Its almost like racism, but with letters (letterism).

Ah, but there's where you're wrong. If you take a look at the socioeconomic demographic of Greek Life, most of these "people" are spoiled rich kids living off mom and dad's money. They won't grow up or grow out of it. Their parents used money to buy them things instead of parent them. It's the standard in OC to throw money at things you don't want to do, like parenting.
