Does anyone agree with me that ranks do matter, but not to the extent that everyone makes it out to be? I think ranks do matter in that it brings out competition which can be positive (like sports, philanthropy, events). For example, because a sorority wants to be competitive in the ranks, they work hard on their philanthropy not only because it's for a good cause but because in order to be top or middle, you have to do a good job on it. Its a nice extra incentive.
But when people are close minded towards other Greeks solely based on their affiliation, I don't get it. If you like someone or want to be their friend why does it matter? Its almost like racism, but with letters (letterism).

Okay here is where you are wrong. Even lots of rich kids I have known are accepting and open-minded. And idk what rock you live under, but lots of kids at UCI are poor (including people in Greek life as well). But I still don't think socioeconomic conditions affect it that much and more importantly its not an excuse. Im not even in a bottom chapter and I think it is ridiculous.

Yeah but I think you missed the point. Obviously DG has more hottie's than SK...but my point is just because a girl is in SK doesn't mean anyone should judge her and be like: oh I'm not going to talk to her because she is in a lower chapter, even though she is cool and attractive. But yet, there could be a not so attractive girl in a top chapter, yet the guy can still brag and be like oh I took an Alpha Phi to formal and people would be impressed.

Ah, but there's where you're wrong. If you take a look at the socioeconomic demographic of Greek Life, most of these "people" are spoiled rich kids living off mom and dad's money. They won't grow up or grow out of it. Their parents used money to buy them things instead of parent them. It's the standard in OC to throw money at things you don't want to do, like parenting.
