Disappointed in UCI

by:

As I came back from school for the summer i wanted to check out my fraternities chapter at Uci. Here’s the thing Uci greeklife is somewhat similar to sourdough bread… hard on the outside and soft on the inside. The city of Irvine just doesn’t have enough of a party culture for this school to thrive in Greek. With that being said, half of these frats and sororities are getting a boof experience. I mean I was walking down “Greek row” if I can even call it that on a Friday Saturday and it was ABSOLUTELY DEAD. No ones tailgating, playing music or even outside. It was odd but ig that’s what you’re signing up for if you go to uci🤣😭. My issue isn’t with that at all you can make fun wherever you go, but when 90% of the guys try to act hard and act like they’ve got a superiority complex because they’re in a top frat at a non Greek life school I find that pretty hilarious.

Yea man as a transfer coming from sdsu it’s night and day. Obv these r 2 extremes coming from sdsu but the way some of the dudes act here is insane to me. I pledged Pike my freshman year, and when I checked out some of the frats here I was shocked. First off their pike isn’t affiliated anymore or must of got kicked off which sucks. Secondly I came into this year not expecting to get a bid because I’m a junior and almost no transfers at “top houses” at sdsu will get a bid. I got a bid from almost all the “top” houses. I think there’s a culture here of just overbidding and honestly quantity over quality. And it could’ve been because I was a junior but a lot of the pnms were just super immature and focused on the wrong things. Atp I’m just ranting but I agree with you, if u go to a big party school and transfer expect the worst here.

To an extent your on point. I honestly partied harder in highschool than here but it’s abt the brotherhood and fit. obv a lot of these upcoming houses are trying to build up a culture and letting everyone join could be a solution. My issue if I’m being real is how cliquey Greek life here is. Back home I have a friends at wisco, ucsb, slo and their Greek life is so involved and like a real community
