greek life here sucks
by: RealTalkI've been seeing a lot of hate about my comments about how greek life at uci sucks, is a joke, and is boring. I mean come on let's be real here, the top frats and sororities here at uci are not better than the bottom tier frats and sororitys at schools like ucla/ucsb/slo/sdsu/michigan. That's just a fact. The bottom tier frats and sororitys are better than the top ones here. I feel that too many out of state kids think greek life will be amazing here just because uci is in OC, but that's far from the truth. It's just that to be honest greek life here is a joke compared to most schools and it's clear a lot of freshies don't realize that. Instead of denying it, let's do something about it. Why can't we be like ucla? Work hard, play hard school. We need to make our pledge classes more selective. I see way too many sororities and frats dirty rushing by following freshies on Insta and then messaging them. By doing that we are making our PCs less selective. It's time to make our PCs ultra selective in order to make greek life here better. My 3 years so far at uci have not been eventful even with being in a frat, but there's room for potential.

Dude... we have no row and no real houses. And our top frats and sororitys would struggle to get into a top frat and sorority at a school like Michigan, and don't even get me started on a school like DAY. They would struggle to get into a bottom frat and sorority at FSU. The poster is right. Our pledge classes suck. Dirty rushing happens so often with freshman guys and girls, it's like the frats and sororitys are begging them to join them. Not how it works at schools with a great greek life.

For this to happen here is what I think is needed: AV needs to be expanded to have houses for every frat. Frats and sororitys must fill houses. Must have parties. Must go to bars. Must study together to maintain good GPAs. Must hang out with people in other frats and sororitys to have a good Greek community.
And honestly, the numbers thing shouldn't work the way it does with sororities. I'll take 20 quality girls instead of 40 girls with only half hot. Even top houses here take some girls that they shouldn't have to. No one should be guaranteed a bid either.

UCI greeklife sucks because Irvine is a controlled city, 'no matter the efforts it's a master planned community with homes being ultra expensive, most parties happen in small apartments and the parties in AV are wack because no one wants to party downstairs. Only way to get the most out of the party scene is to fill up an off campus house and party over there. Other than that, greeklife here isn't going to be great at all.

I actually agree with the poster, and it's funny how people are disliking it and the people who comment and agree with him. The guy who said he has had the time of his life must have never partied in high school because there is nothing special about our parties. High school parties are better tbh because they are actually at houses. I dont think we will ever get a football team, but what can help greek life is less dirty rushing. It happens from both sides, but mainly from sororities. Honestly surprised they havent been caught because dirty rushing isnt allowed. Besides its ruining the quality of pledge classes. Sigh. None of this matters. Greek life wont change.

Some schools just aren't meant to be places where you party hard and go to frat parties every weekend
Some schools just don't have a strong greek life
If you hate it so much go somewhere else!!!!!!!!!!! nobody ever thought Irvine was a party school!!!

Exactly. I've counted at least 23 freshman followed by members of a frat or sorority. It's so obvious they are dirty rushing. Are these "top" frats and sororities really that desparate to recruit the "best" freshmen? It shouldn't work like that. It should be the freshmen competing to sell themselves to the frats and sororitys. That's why the pledge classes suck so bad here, which makes greek life suck here. Also screw AV. Those aren't even houses. We need a row or actual houses at least like at most schools. That's why greek life is so boring here. I've seen high schoolers throw better parties than us ffs.
