fall recruitment
by: CurriousHow come everyone gets a bid for fall recruitment ?

Not every woman is guaranteed a bid. There is no way to do that. There is a percentage of women who are dropped from recruitment each year.
Speak with your recruitment advisors if you have questions about the process. It has to do with numbers. I assume most of you posting are pretty new to recruitment. Ask them about how National Recruiter and the selection process works. Because once you know how the number system works for voting you will understand why your chapter may be getting women you do not want. There are national Panhellenic standards that we follow. So look those up if you want to know more.
While we say that girls will most likely be guaranteed a bid if they "maximize their options" it's not true. I saw many women walk away from recruitment on day 2 and day 3 in 2014 because they were not asked back to any houses.
But I could speak for days about how recruitment works. So here is my advice for chapter members who are recruitment is fall:
Do not rely on Panhelenic and Recruitment counselors to get women to sign up for recruitment. Not because they are bad at their jobs, but really because it's impossible for a team of 40 to recruit over 500 women for you all and ensure they are the quality we want. It's just not possible.
It is on chapter members to encourage potential new members to sign up for recruitment. Our chapters are each 130 women strong now. In the fall, with seniors gone, we will have almost 900 women in our community who are capable of recruiting

So as a community we can ensure that we encourage quality women we meet to go through. Last year we had high numbers going into recruitment. But unfortunately a large number of those women dropped out or weren't good fits for recruitment. And a lot of amazing girls never even signed up and will probably go through this year as second and third years.
But know this, if we want to maintain our totals of 130 members, we need to bring in large pledge classes. That's why last year many women got bids who maybe shouldn't have. Many of those women even dropped out soon after pledging. But they were given bids to fulfill total. And they were given bids because our chapter members failed to actively and fairly recruit women into Greek life.
You all will only have a strong community if you commit to putting in the work. So talk to your sisters about who they know from their old high school or from an extracurricular who is now coming to UCI. Reach out and encourage them to sign up for recruitment (it's not against the standing rules if you promote Greek life and not just your own chapter). Identify women and they will bring their friends as well.
I know it's easy to pick someone to blame. Like an administrator, or "Panhellenic." But we are Panhellenic and this is a slow process. It takes time to make changes.
Please educate yourselves on recruitment and Panhellenic standing rules and make a difference in your chapters. Your positive passion will spread.

How come there are a couple crazy girls that no chapter wants that somehow end up in a chapter? But every girl she's talked to gave her a 1. I'm not blaming Panhellenic. In fact, I don't think the number 130 should matter because even at 120 you cut out the girls that won't end up fitting in well anyway while still keeping a high number. And yes, I seem to remember this one girl who went on a rampage on GR last year because she didn't get a bid from any chapter. So many less girls would go through rush if they were told they may or may not get a bid. Unless you are super hot (even then isn't a guarantee) you may be discouraged.
