rushing this winter quarter
by: Transfer
So i'm an incoming transfer student and I had a few questions about greek life...hopefully all of the Davis greeks can get along for a sec and help a brother out....or not
1. Transfers who rush: Is it less likely for a transfer student to get a bid, simply because they are a transfer? For those of you in a fraternity ( or sorority) how many transfers are usually accepted? I understand that there is an acceptance process, but roughly what percentage or number of transfers get in?
2. $$$: How much are quarterly fees? I have asked some of my friends who are in sororities, and they all say anywhere between $600-$1200. When I ask my bros who are in a frat, none of them have ever said a price over $600.
3. Level of Douche(LOD) : I believe that the LOD in greek life varies from school to school. For example, I have friends in a particular fraternity, at a school i won't name, and the LOD within their fraternity is through the roof. I've heard that Davis greek like has a more chill/mellow vibe. In comparison to greek life at other schools, what's unique about the greek life at Davis? I've meet with some of the greeks, and of all the people i met, everyone seems easy to get along with and chill as f.
4. And last but not least.. Top 5 fraternities and top 5 sororites. (i know that the top houses depend on each person you ask, but i know for a fact that Dsig&SigmaChi and DG&Kappa are somewhere up top)

sororities take transfers over returning juniors because its technically their first chance to rush, frats don't have quotas really so idk. frats are less expensive than sororities, they clock in at like 500-900 a year depending on the financial status of their house (do they have one, location, amount of live ins) and nationals for each frat costs a diff amt. greek life is chill but sororities are still catty and frats can be douchey no matter where you are.
very generic sorority ranking is pretty locked in
referred to "top 4" - dg, a phi, pi phi, kappa
then axo, tri delt, theta, chi o
frats are hard bc there's so many, but generally(ish)
sig chi, d sig are standouts, then all of these frats are "up there" but its hard to rank: pike, zeta psi, theta xi

1. Frats really don't care about grade or if you're a transfer. They more look to see if you're a chill guy who they would want to hang out with. More freshmen and transfers are usually taken because those are the majority of the guys who rush in fall.
2. Frat dues tend to be anywhere from $200-$600 a quarter. Those who rent a chapter house tend to be on the higher end of dues because of a parlor fee (cost you pay if you aren't living in the house).
3. Davis Greek life, for the most part, is laid back and chill. There are some frats that have more of a reputation for douchiness (you can probably already tell from other discussions on here who those are).
4. Frat rankings are volatile at Davis. With chapters trading/gaining/losing houses each year, they often switch suddenly. I recommend you look into a couple different chapters and see where you fit in best
