rushing as a junior
by: so many questions
I'm a returning junior and want to rush this fall. Most of my friends are in houses and they've encouraged me to rush. My GPA is slightly low right now for my standards but I was wondering how much your GPA weighs on a house's decision to keep you if you vibe really well with the girls?
Also, how hard overall is it to rush as a junior and get the house you want, particularly if it is a "top tier" house?
Thank youuu for any helpful responses!

from a sorority's standpoint, returning juniors (who aren't transfers) are of the lowest "value" to us. You'd only be in the house for two years, and it makes us wonder why you waited 2 years to rush anyways. Top tier houses take MAYBE 5 max returning juniors, and some take zero. Middle/lower tier houses have a harder time filling underclassman quotas, so they'll take a few more than that number. And if your GPA is low that also deters us from bidding you, just because we have a house average that we want to maintain. I'd still advise you to rush just so you can go through the process and see what happens, but come up with valid reasons for why you chose to rush as a junior and don't be deterred if you get dropped from a lot of houses, it's probably not you as a person, just your grade.

every house is different, though quotas usually go 1. freshmen 2. juniors 3. sophomores, so all "top" houses will be taking some juniors. all sororities have a minimum gpa, and usually don't take gpa into consideration much if you're above it... prob around a 2.5 or 2.75

you have a really low likelihood of getting into a "top house" because it looks kinda bad to not go greek for the 2 previous years :/ also, please keep an open mind when going into rush, bc if you set your heart on a "top house", you're going to subconsciously dislike the "lower" houses. the system always works itself out! you will find where you belong. while it may be nice to enjoy the reputation of a "top house", remember that you are rushing to find a family away from family, NOT to get a reputation.
even if you have many friends in a certain house, it's not guaranteed you will get a bid from the house... unless it's chi o LOL
and finally one last point-- no offense lol but that phrase "the house you want" makes me laugh. ppl outside of the greek system hardly know how we are

What is considered a low GPA? Like a 2.5 or just anything below a 3?
