I wish I could offer more advice to you but Panhellenic has made sorority recruitment into a ridiculous thing at Davis. I would say we have quality sororities in spite of formal rush, not because of it. I'm a senior in a fraternity at Davis so I'll try to communicate my impressions and hopefully that's useful to you. Take everything with a grain of salt as these are general things reflecting the sorority, not their individual members.

Many houses have good sisterhood so for you ultimately its going to come down to where you gel. Try to find a house where it seems like the girls there have interests which are consistent with yours and I'm sure you'll do fine.

Alpha Phi gets a bad rap because they can be a bit catty at times, but that's really only a small part of their sisterhood. The balance of their members are, at least in my experience, complete sweethearts, and very fun. Their biggest philanthropy event is King of Hearts, and they usually have a fun competition going for their field events and competitions during it.

Delta Gamma are generally perceived as being about the same as Alpha Phi looks wise, but with a tighter sisterhood. I can't comment on their inner workings but the girls I know always seem to look out for each other. They have Anchorsplash as their biggest philanthropy event this fall, a sort of aquatics and man pageant competition. Its pretty fun.

Delta Delta Delta (or to pretty much everyone Tri-Delt) has some very fun girls. I was on a houseboat with them this past year and it was one of the most painless experiences I've ever had. Very easy to get along with, I don't think I've ever had drama with one of them. They definitely party, but have much more going on besides that. Most sororities have involvement in campus organizations, but they are one of maybe two that actually has elected representatives in ASUCD. While this may not seem like a big deal, keep in mind that they are essentially the voices for greek life on that council, on a campus that has a typically negative outlook on greek life (which is ironic because most of us kick ass, quite frankly). As far as philanthropy, they are prodigious on paper given their great fund raising, but they seem to lack the fun elements that other sororities have incorporated.

Alpha Chi Omega seems to be going through a big transition at the moment. I remember them as being a very different sorority when I was a freshman, and I have a somewhat mixed impression of them at the moment. That probably has something to do with the fact that they were a little top-heavy last year, and so lost a large senior class (happens to every organization periodically, just means there could be a period of growing pains while new leadership steps in). That said, they have smart girls in charge and I'm sure will do just fine moving forward. Also they make a damn good plate of nachos.

Remember that the most important thing in choosing a house is that you click with the members. You're the only one who knows whether or not you mesh with a certain group of girls; greekrank can't really help you with that one.

My advice for you is to forget what you've read on greekrank and focus on the conversations you're having. Don't end up in a house that doesn't suit you just because people on the internet told you it was the best choice. You might end up dropping out and wasting a ton of time and money.

Go to all of the houses on your schedule. The party you skip could be the one where you would've met your future bridesmaids.

Pledge! No matter what your impression of a house is during recruitment, pledging is the best way to find out how well you really fit in that sisterhood. Give it a few weeks and if you hate it, you can drop.

Or just rank them all in alphabetical order.

You should really talk to your Pi Rho Chi about this. They are there for these exact situations and can help you with this decision with an unbiased attitude.

So much chatter. I love Pi Phi ( I'm not one ) because they are so chill, and so many beauties, but everyone welcome if you're cool. Top, without being a stereotype...they love everyone and don't pick JUST because you are beautiful...amazing sisterhood. Depth is where it's at but lovely too! That wins every time. Dg cool too, but too much emphasis on face. Aphi...nope...big mess. Kappa...YES!
