greek life: the bottom 50% of your classes' curves

by:

Being in a frat or sorority doesn't help you with anything in life, all you do is get drunk and make your parents pay money to be friends with other losers like you. "OHBUTLYKECONNECTIONZANDALUMNI!!!!!11" That's the biggest joke I've heard, how many people do you know have been simply handed jobs because they were frat bros? You're also all acting like networking doesn't exist outside of Greek Life. Maybe there are a couple success stories in your chapter, but come on. All Greek Life is is a huge distraction that helps 18-year-old kids black out to dull the pain of them failing their communications midterms.

Wake up. Fraternities and sororities are huge money-making ploys designed to get your mommies and daddies to cough up hundreds of dollars a quarter (that eventually adds up to thousands) to pay the salaries of those who run the national headquarters. Also, from the looks of the petty, childish comments spewed on this site, you all really do gossip like crazy and act like 8th-grade girls.

Then I found a link to the Greek community's academics report and noticed that well over half you geniuses can't even keep a B average in your classes. I hope you all enjoy this 4 (or 5 from the looks of it) year extension of high school and I'll see you all at Starbucks after graduation (if you don't drop out and become a barista sooner). Have fun beating your chests and badmouthing each other, losers. The rest of us at UC Davis will be busy growing up and being productive.

To the original writer, I know that you are going to be just as ignorant toward this post as you claim that us Greeks are in all aspects of our unsuccessful Starbucks-bound lives, but just hear me out. I don't think that any member of the any of the many Panhellenic or IFC social fraternities/sororities on this campus will tell you, if asked, that they joined their organization because of its amazing assets and opportunities for the future. Recommendations, study files, connections, and invaluable advice from those older than us are all great, but they are not why we joined. I (and I think many/most others) joined because our four years are the last four years that we get, to experience being young and having crazy fun before entering the real world. Most of us are here, just like you, to study hard and earn a degree for a successful future. (I'm preparing for medical school with a 3.7 GPA). We just want to have some awesome times and make some amazing friends/brothers/sisters in the process, that we will be able to look back on with fondness and remember how great college was. If this is not how you choose to enjoy your time here, that's fine. If we come off superficial or shallow sometimes, I'm sorry if that bothers you. But don't feel entitled to bash on organizations that have been part of the American college experience since the 1800's, especially since I don't think that you know as much about us as you think you do.

The fact that you're going on and on about how much we "badmouth" each other is excruciatingly hypocritical seeing as you're taking time out of your day to hide behind your computer and badmouth us. Apparently you do more than just study and attend office hours if you notice enough of what is going on on this (in my opinion) stupid page that only showcases how a select few misrepresent Greek Life. If you were so "mature" and "grown up" you wouldn't feel the need to publicly bash organizations that you clearly fee are beneath you.

Not only does the Greek system encourage collegiates to become their most well-rounded selves (most of us are involved in other clubs, sports teams, etc.), it also benefits the Davis community as well as other nation-wide communities through service and our philanthropies. It is fairly common knowledge that a well-rounded, community service oriented person involved in any organization, including, but not limited to, a Greek one, would be seen as a better applicant on any application than an applicant who spent their time in college solely focused on their academics such as yourself.

Finally, the fact that you assume "mommy and daddy" pay for everything is not only ignorant, it's disgusting. Many of us don't rely on our parents and actually work one or two jobs to pay for our schooling and organization. And to assume that all of us have both parents is naive; some of us do not have one, or even both, of our parents in our lives to support us.
