The frat life sucks because of low numbers. They keep getting suspended/kicked off and Marquette isn't crazy about greek life so they're not about to bring more on. A lot of MU party culture is not unlike frat-type behavior so if you think about it, do we really need them at all? The only difference between frat dudes and regular guys is that frats have formals/mixers to attend a few times per semester (plus "brotherhood" for a few of them), which can be fun, but not really worth it to a lot of people when you have to pay dues. Sororities are a whole different thing in themselves so it makes sense why they are so popular.
