informal
by: MugreekSo what's the deal with informal rush? Open to sophomores but is it worth it? What sororities take girls during informal?

If you're a sophomore & want to be Greek go through informal rush rather than waiting for the winter formal recruitment. At least this way you'll only be up against other sophomores/some juniors instead of 400 freshmen (which the sororities prefer to take). The lower houses (PiPhi, AXO, KD, kinda AXD) always do informal rush and that's your best chance, they take a lot more upperclassmen. APhi/SK will take at most around 3, almost all of they people that get informal bids are friends of members or transfers.
Everyone always mixes up informal recruitment & COB. Only the chapters that don't meet quota (PiPhi, KD, AXO) do COB and that's held after formal recruitment in the spring.

I'd also add that there's a lot they don't tell you about formal recruitment. People in charge call it a "mutual selection" process, but it's totally not. You can go ahead and put down your list of favs but its the sororities that do all the choosing of girls. You can get asked back to up to four houses the first night, and in the end have at most 2 houses for pref night. The majority of girls will not get asked back to four the first night (usually only 2, sometimes 3), so girls think they will have all of these options but in reality not many will. This makes chances of getting your pick even worse for non-freshman.

I know KD met quota for bid day but will continue to do informal rush to build up their older classes since they have smaller numbers of the first and second class because they're newer. Pi phi always does informal and so do axo. I haven't heard about axd but I know girls have dropped so they probably will this year.
