by: UpperclassmenAdvice for incoming freshman- don't join a sorority just because you want to party. Literally anyone can party, college is nothing like high school. There are no 'cool' kids or 'unpopulars'. Everyone just does what they want and doesn't care what other people choose to do or not do with their time. The vast majority of the school is made up of non-Greeks and they are the ones throwing the parties. Yes, a lot of Greeks do go out a lot but you absolutely do not have to be affiliated to have a prosperous social life. Don't feel the need to try to gain some sort of social superiority by being Greek, it's not like that at Marquette. Trust me, that's why I joined and later realized no one cares if I thought I was cool or that I went out a lot or had a Greek affiliation. Just like no one will care if you were an athlete or a random or a cheerleader in high school. Other freshman probably will because ~high school~, but everyone grows out of it usually by the next year. Don't let that be the reason you rush or don't rush, or you might end up being very disappointed.

I feel like this is slowly changing, especially for sororities. This last year around 400 girls rushed and there were only 1,000 girls in the freshman class. Some dropped out of recruitment/before initiation and it ended up that about 30% of freshmen girls were in sororities. That's comparable to southern schools w/ strong Greek systems (Alabama, Ole Miss, etc). Yeah maybe 4 years ago sororities were pretty irrelevant but I see the MU greek system becoming huge. If only the frats could catch up to the sororities, 2 legit frats isn't enough

Regardless of how many girls are rushing, Marquette greek life is no where near comparison to any SEC school, by a long shot. Our rush is in the spring, it's no-frills, we rush in the AMU (lol), and as you said, there's a giant shortage of frat parties.
