I got a scholarship for $1000/semester from my sorority. The scholarship for my particular sorority is awarded by that organization's National HQ, and is available only to initiated sisters, therefore you're not eligible your first semester (since you're a new member, and not yet initiated). It was easy to apply for! I went to my chapter's Standards Board to tell them I was having trouble affording membership. They did everything they could to make sure I was able to afford it. Every sorority is different, though! Some have scholarships for New Members, some don't have scholarships at all. Usually only one or two girls per chapter get them, so it's hard to even ask about them during recruitment because it's unlikely that your rusher will even know about them. If it's a matter of concern for you, my best advice is to go to the chapter's national websites (like www.alphachiomega.org or www.deltagamma.org or www.chiomega.org) and flip through their webpage, see if they mention scholarships available to members.

my advice is not to count on getting money from a sorority...its really the other way around. You will pay money for belonging and what you get in return is awesome. Honestly, if you cant afford it then don't do it.

But also - be a real grown up. If you want to be in a sorority, work for it. Get a job. I got the scholarship from my chapter and also got a job to pay for it. I know lots of women who took out loans for it. I get so annoyed with people who expect Mommy and Daddy to pay for their social club membership. You want something, go get it yourself girl. It's do-able.

You could also apply for outside scholarships (as in, outside of greek life) and then use them to fund the sorority! For example, I'm planning to use part of my merit scholarship money toward a sorority. Apply apply apply!

how about just getting a job. nothing is for free in life. scholarships other students will need for food, books, tuition to be used for your social sorority just does not seem right. Just get a job and pay for it yourself. Its do-able like she said above.
