recruitment

by: Pnm

I rushed last year, but I honestly wasnt myself and listened to a friend about what I should and shouldnt wear rather than be individual and unique. Im re-rushing this year, has anyone done the same and had different outcomes?

A friend did the opposite from you; all her social media photos showed her looking gorgeous and put together. She decided to be her natural self during recruitment and didn't wear makeup or really style her hair and she was unrecognizable. She was dropped from all houses before the end of the week. I'm not saying you have to be something you're not but you really need to at least look like you care somewhat about your appearances. There'll be plenty of downtime once you're in a house. This friend is also re-rushing and I'm hoping she finds her home. And I hope you find yours here as well!

I did my makeup and hair nicely, and will still do so, but my main issue was that she told me I "had" to wear a certain brand or certain style of clothing. This year Im planning on still looking my best self, but with a trendier style thats my own rather than the one she reccomended.

No offense but good for her. I'm kind of appalled that all of the sororities dropped her for being herself and not making herself up to be liked. They should've realized she was making a point to be noticed by who she was instead of being accepted for looking the way they expected her to look. I'm not from Florida, and where I live no one even knows who Lilly Pulitzer is and I'm sure if your friend rushed at a school in my state they would accept her. These chapters sound shallow to me, but I hope I'm proved wrong during rush.

Be individual and unique, yes. But you need to be the best version of yourself. So put on your makeup and do your hair.

My best friend re rushed her sophomore year and it went COMPLETELY differently (in a better way) than her freshman year experience.

Just out of curiousity did you not get a bid or did you choose to drop out or something?

I rushed only once, and I sometimes look back and laugh at how adamantly "independent" I was. I refused to wear any typical "sorority girl" outfits because I wanted to find a house that loved me for who I was. I wore converses for round one, and ratty ripped jean shorts for round 2. I still got a bid from my absolute favorite house.
That being said, though, please try and be respectful in what you choose to wear. Now that I'm on the other side, and I've put so much effort into looking nice, it's kinda insulting when a PNM shows up looking like she just doesn't care. Be yourself, but be put together. We joke that recruitment is like speed-dating for girls, and you don't want your date to show up looking like they rolled out of bed and aren't at all excited to meet you!

PLEASE RE RUSH! I rushed again my sophomore year and preffed my top three unlike freshman year where I was dropped from everywhere. This time I was very honest with myself and what I wanted, and I genuinely took interest in every single house I went to. I wish you the best of luck, go gators, go Greek!
