appearance codes

by: soph pnm

which sororities have rules about your appearance, and what are the rules/how strict are they? I understand stuff like "oh we're all dressing up for this event" but I've heard horror stories about not being able to wear letters or even go to your own house without full hair and makeup. As someone who can't wash/style her bleached hair every day (aka 2 times a week and avoid heat), this is secretly a big factor for me.

I don't know much about other houses, but sororities do stress that you're "always wearing your letters". So you don't want to go out and go completely crazy and get wasted because it's a reflection on your chapter. Most sororities don't have the silly rules like, you have to wear makeup to the gym or things like that. It's always nice to look good when you're wearing your letters of course! But you never want to be wearing them if you're going out really.

this is exactly what I meant! I understand not to do anything bad, but I want to make sure that my actual (clean) self isn't against the rules.

I think most sororities mean "you're always wearing your letters" as more of a classiness thing, like you wouldn't wear them to a party or to buy plan B or to breakfast if you're completely hungover. Looking semi presentable and having a full face of makeup are two completely different things - coming from someone who washes their hair 2-3 times a week

I think you're confusing us with FSU, all my friends at FSU say they have rules like that. But I'm in a sorority here and have never heard about that with any UF sorority.

All my friends here in sororities (myself included) have had some sort of powerpoint on how to present yourself in public especialllly when wearing your letters~HOWEVER, most of the stuff is common sense and stuff you'd do anyways. I know my sorority doesn't really enforce these rules that much but I know some lower tier (trying to rise) and upper tier houses which get a little heated about how to present yourself. In any case, I don't think it's anything serious/burdening enough to worry about pre-bid..
