what would you do if you could re-rush?

by: Time turner

Since PNMs will probably be reading here, I wanted to put something helpful. For those in sororities...if you could go back and do rush all over again, what would you do differently? Can be silly or serious!

I'll start: I'd have figured out better questions to ask Round 1. I didn't really know much about Greek life and thought I should ask about things like "which fraternities do you do events with?" So dumb! I don't really party and didn't even know anything about the fraternities, I just thought that was a part of Greek life I should ask about. Got released by all but four houses. Found a chapter I love but it was rough and I still cringe that I asked that!

That's a good point! I would probably choose to pick better questions to ask too. All the chapter women are so helpful and want to assist you in finding your home and I didn't take advantage of their willingness to answer my questions during recruitment. My other advice would to be to do some soul-searching - think about what qualities you admire in your current friends, and what qualities you value most personally, and make an effort to find those qualities during recruitment! It's easy to be just like "oh, they're so pretty, and the girl I talked to was so nice" when in reality it's better to notice "wow, they seem like they're really close friends with one another, and they put a lot of emphasis on academics which is important to me."
Good luck PNMS!

Wear something you are comfortable in and know will hold up throughout the day. Round 2 I wore these adorable blue scalloped shorts with a white blouse tucked in but the shorts were wrinkled after the first party because I sat down and apparently they wrinkled easily and I hate having my shirts tucked in but I wanted to be ~trendy~ when I should've picked an outfit I was familiar with and comfortable in because I lacked the confidence and ease I could have had with a different outfit.

I did. A lot of girls wear like skirts or cute shorts or casual dresses. Check their pinterest page for ideas!

I personally would discourage wearing shorts round 2. Some people do it, and by all means if it is what makes you comfortable, but the vast majority wear sundresses and you may stick out (in a not great way) if you are wearing shorts. Just my two cents!

I was surprised that often by the third round the girls are often looking for more deep talks, while I'd prefer to just have natural ones. When you say "oh no I don't really have any questions it's been going great!" trying to be enthusiastic and get back to getting to know them, it may come off as likable but not especially interested in the specific house. Misunderstanding that can keep you from prefs!

Get a battery operated, hand held fan. They're like $5 at CVS and it will save your life and keep your face from melting off

Try to stay away from talking about booze, boys, bibles, and money.

I would definitely change what I wore last year. Not everything, but I had friends in sororities and they pretty much told me which dresses to wear. I wore this one dress from vineyard vines that looked super cute on the hanger, but was just not right for my body type. I was pretty uncomfortable the entire time, and even though I still got compliments on the dress, it wasn't really me. Don't feel like you have to go with something that's brand name. If you're more comfortable in a trendy dress, wear it. If you're more comfortable in Lilly, wear that.
