question
by: PNMI tend to be very liberal in my beliefs. I am going through sorority recruitment this Fall. It is hard to tell from social media if a sorority is more liberal or conservative. I do not want to join a house that is really conservative. I would not fit in. Which houses would be a better fit for me...as a liberal? Thanks in advance.

Please don't even consider this when choosing a house. I'm a conservative and I have sisters who are conservatives, liberals, independents, and everywhere in between. And I get along with all of them. Sororities are not about politics. We don't sit around the dinner table discussing Barack Obama. We're more concerned with who were taking on formal. It would be really stupid to choose a house based on what political views they hold because there isn't a house that is fully liberal or conservative.

In all honesty, if this is the motivating factor that you use to choose a house, I guarantee you will not be happy no matter where you end up. Being closed minded like this is not the way to go into sorority recruitment. You are choosing your sisters, your best friends, the people you will grow to care so much about. Choosing based on political affiliation seems pretty silly doesn't it? If this is your concern, join a politically motivated club on campus, NOT a sorority.

Going through rush, this was the same question I asked, because I didn't want to feel ostracized due to my liberal beliefs. It is true that every sorority has a mix of liberal and conservative, but I would say there are a few sororities that really stood out liberally or as not very religious:
Theta
Pi Phi
AXO
Sigma Kappa
Still keep an open mind when rushing, however!

I mean, just because people don't outwardly talk about this stuff doesn't mean it doesn't change the environment. YES, give every house a chance, but realize that all kinds of beliefs will impact your experience whether you're in the majority or not.
