rush?
by: Potential PC'15What can we expect during rush? How does it all go down... I seem to be very confused on the whole subject. Is it as stressful and cut throat as all the blogs make it out to be?

I wouldn't say that it's cut throat, just that it's easy to set yourself up for disappointment. Go in knowing that you probably won't get invited back to every house you like, and that you're unfortunately going to have to deal with rejection. Just stay open minded, don't get your heart set on any one or two houses, and focus on houses that invite you back, instead of dwelling on the one's you don't. Also, when you're at each party, treat every house as if it's your favorite. Many people decide they don't like a house and "give up" on them and don't really try at that house. This will get you dropped, and you could be missing out on what that house has to offer because you thought that you were better them or whatever.

Here's how it works. Round 1, you visit every house for 20 minutes. It's very structured, and a girl will walk you around/tell you where to sit/ etc, and you just basically folow their lead and talk to them. Pi chis (recruitment counselors) will lead you around this round, so stay with them, and you wont get lost. It usually takes 2 days. Then you write down your top 11 houses, and then you rank the bottom 5. (Pi chis will explain all that when it comes time). Conputers take your preferences and the chapters preferences and do magic to get you your next schedule. Round 2, your pi chis hand you a schedule with your parties, and you have to go to each one. since everyone's schedule is different, you walk around on your own, but pi chis will point you in the right direction. Same thing as round 1 for parties, but this time for 30 minutes, and you only visit up to 11 houses. That takes 2 days, too, and you pick your top 7, and rank the bottom ones. Round 3, new schedule, same thing but 40 minutes, just one day, and then you pick your top 3, rank your bottom ones. Pref day, you go to up to 3 houses, you're there fo 50 minutes, and then you rank in order your #1, #2, and #3. Then bid day you get a card, find out where you got a bid, and take a bus to the house to celebrate! The rounds get fancier each time, so look at the pan website and they'll have examples.
