transfer bid

by: Out of state

I will be transferring to UF next fall from a school outside of Florida (I'll be a sophomore). I know that UF has a very small percentage of out of state students so I was wondering if I would automatically not be considered by some of the top fraternities. If I go through rush do you think they will take my out of state and transfer status into account to the point that it could hinder me from getting a bid?
Thanks in advance.

UF has a large diverse greek system. We are not concerned about where you come from just the quality of your character and what you can bring to the fraternity you join. Unlike other large Greek communities, like Alabama, being an out of state student will not be a factor. You will be fine.

Wow thank you so much, this has actually been one of the most respectful and helpful replies I have seen on this website. This is also great to hear as I have heard things about southern fraternities being less accepting of students from the north. Would being a sophomore or a transfer have any effect or are those similarly irrelevant factors?

no one will like you because you did not come in as a freshman. join an academic club instead.

^First of all, don't listen to the idiot above.
I transferred to UF during summer B as a sophomore too. I decided to wait a few months to learn my way around and went through rush in the Spring. I don't think this experience hampered me a bit. In fact, if anything, it helped me stand out from the pack. Good luck to you.

That is why I recite the creed of a True Gentleman.
The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.
What creed do you live by?

Transferred in as 3rd year in the fall and accepted a bid a top house. Be cool and find your niche and you'll get a bid.

Thanks man, I appreciate the input. Did you do anything over the summer or did you just start going to parties/rush events once fall semester started?

Haha yeah I'll be rushing in the Fall. As of now, I'm just wondering if I should transfer early during Summer B as I've heard that's a fun time and helps a lot with getting to know the different houses. If anyone has any input, I'd love to hear.
