prefs
by: PNMI'm was only invited back to one house for prefs... Is it likely I won't get a bid? Or am I probably going to get a bid

I pref'ed at only one house last year. At first, I was kind of sad because I didn't have any choices. I was also really afraid that the house I had left would not offer me a bid. I really liked the house and hoped they would. I was so happy when they did! Bid day was a blast and now looking back on it, I can truly say I was meant to be here and no where else. Good luck:)

The release figures method (the computer system that does the bid matching) does its best to make sure that every woman who maximizes her options (attends all pref parties to which she is invited and lists ALL of these chapters on her final ranking) will get a bid. That is why there are quota additions (chapters being able to take more PNMs than are included in the base 'quota' number). If all of the chapters where you pref reach quota before they get to your name on the list, the system will add you to one of those three houses as a 'quota addition'. If you play by the rules (attend all parties, rank all houses that invited you) you are pretty much guaranteed to get a bid through this system (like 99.9% of the time) and if you are a quota addition, no one (including you) will ever know. If you are only invited to one or two houses for prefs, but you rank all of the houses who invited you, you are still covered by that guarantee. If you 'suicide' or choose to rank only one chapter, then you are not eligible to be a quota addition, and if you aren't on their first bid list, you're SOL. That's why they tell you not to do that. But if you were only invited back to one chapter for prefs, then you aren't suiciding - you're maximizing your options like you're supposed to, and you are 99.9% going to get a bid to that chapter. So try not to stress!

If you're too nervous to sleep tonight, you can read the panhellenic recruitment rules for yourself - just google 'panhellenic manual of information' and PDF copies of the entire 200-page rule book will come up. The recruitment stuff starts somewhere in the 90s I believe. (I warn you, it's very dry. Might help you sleep!) Good luck tomorrow! Panhellenic <3

I've just never heard of anyone preffing at one house and getting a bid?
