rush

by:

I am a freshman at UF and leaving tomorrow to go to school. I am going to rush to be in a sorority. It seems like there will be a lot of girls doing this and obviously there are not enough sororities to fit everyone. How many girls go thru rush and what are my percentage of chances of getting into a good house? I was pretty popular in high school and I would say that I am fairly attractive. I am so stressed.

There is already over 20% more girls going through recruitment tan last year.
over 1700 and they have until sunday to sign up

the first round is 22 parties...with 80-90 girls......girls only meet you for a few moments and have to remember you....the house reviews every single girl(over 1700) so do not take it personally if you are cut....they stay up really late and are all really tired and just want to get it over with....

....if you speak a girl you do not click with you are cut...pretty much all luck and appearance....the first couple rounds......but you never know why a girl might not like you(i.e.. you remind her of a girl her boyfriend cheated with/ you are too pretty and therefore competition...not pretty enough.....dislikes your voice....on and on......

just stick with it...no matter what...stay in the house you end up in even if you do not think you will like it at first...chances are you will find lifelong friends and love it....there really is not a "bad" sorority at UF...some are just more popular than other.....

....good advice above and accurate. Pick where you FEEL at home, not where others think you should belong because of how you look. Good luck!

Do you think they will be looking up my FB page? If there person I am talking to does not seem interested should I try to move to another sister and start conversation so I have a better chance?

There are 16 houses. After 1st round how many do i cut or what is the maximum houses i can go back to? Also, what about 2nd and 3rd rounds?

another question - If i go to preferences round and go to three houses am I pretty much guaranteed to get one of the three?

first round you go to 16 houses....you rank them 1-16........if all houses asks you back you will go to your top 11...if 6 houses ask you back you will go to all those 6 no matter what order you ranked them
(the most you will go back to is 11)

second round you will rank your houses 1-11 and the most w you will go back to is 7

third round you will rank your houses 1-7 and the most you will go to is 3

I did not hear of anyone not getting a bid if they went to all 3 preferences and ranked them 1-3(If you only pick one that is suiciding and you could be dropped)

remember on the other side the houses are ranking the PNM also...so that is how it is decided which houses you go to

i put it very basic...a little more involved...but that is the gist of it

90% of girls going through recruitment were relatively popular and 100% consider themselves attractive, I wouldn't bank on your chances of getting a bid...

Ok thanks. Maybe I won't do it. It seems like a lot of emotions and stress for not being able to count on a bid. I thought it would be fun but I don't need the extra stress. Lol

Every year, about this time, the stress of recruitment begins to bear down on the sisters and the PNM's as we each want to make a good impression on one another. Yes, the process is full of ups and downs. You will be excited one minute and in tears the next but you will never know what friendship and sisterhood you could have had if you don't participate. Don't back out because you are scared of the unknown, all PNM's will be in the same boat. Keep an open mind, enjoy the process, and you will find the right fit for you. Remember nothing ventured, nothing gained!

But you shouldn't do it because you're guaranteed or not guaranteed a bid. You should do it for the experience. If you keep an open mind and enjoy it simply because you wanted to try something new, you will enjoy the process much more and make great friends along the way. Sometimes you have to take chances in life! :)
