Tier system is not factual

by:

Greek life has a superficial tier system that gets perpetuated based on nothing but outsiders looking in, people not in greek life, mostly based on social media and "looks", frat associations, house size, etc. It has nothing to do with if you will feel at home with the sisters...it has no "real" affect on anything. If you are joining a sorority based on it being at the top of this artificial tier, because you think that this somehow equates to having a great time, better parties and more popularity (which is really being popular with strangers who care nothing about you), or great success, then you are about to lead a very empty existence.

PNMs- you should pick a place you feel you can be genuine, safe to be vulnerable, and be honestly connected. Don't look up "tiers" or let people convince you which ones are "better"...it's not real. The BEST sorority is purely on how YOU FEEL and where YOU ARE HAPPY and feel AT HOME! If you go for where YOU personally like, you'll have an amazing time. If you go for other people's stereotypes and what you think THEY LIKE, you won't love your house. You'll be living someone else's life.

Trust the process. Go to the house that you can see yourself feeling like you are HOME, where you can "let your hair down" and be authentic...where you are comfortable having a conversation while brushing your teeth in your pjs and never give it a second thought.

Let's be honest, tier systems perpetuated on here are hard to ignore. They aren't based on any facts but if you are new to greek life, you can get sucked into the nonsense. BUT, UF is lucky to have all great and strong chapters! There truly is something for everyone. If you can just ignore the hype and follow your heart, you will truly love your experience.

Strive to be in a house where you are liked for WHO you are, not WHAT you are...and conversely, chose your forever home for WHO they are, not WHAT they are. Ignore the letters.

The tier system exists in every school. No need to make pnms uninformed. It’s basically the most popular houses. If a house HAS to drop majority of pnms, it’s because it’s popular. If a house has to invite everyone back, it’s because it’s less popular etc. it’s called the RFM system and it’s national.

This does not mean that a Pnm won’t have a great experience in a lower tier house, many do.

So, that's basically the point. Houses get called top because they are perpetuated by superficial criteria...and over time, this creates a demand for the house that makes them most desired by PNM's because they don't know what the criteria is. So they think that if they don't get a "top" house, they will have a terrible experience. But this is NOT true! Just because a house is not "top" doesn't mean there aren't the same girls, just maybe not as actively promoting their house on IG or Tik Tok or maybe their priorities are different and don't feel that going to the most frat parties is important or being fashionable is a priority...so they don't get seen as a top sorority. But a lot of the so called lower houses have higher retention rates or have better sisterhood, but that is not a criteria that gets seen by outsiders or as glamorous.

The point being, if you just use the tiers and not follow your heart and really get to know the girls rather than the "title", you won't find your true sisterhood. You have to ignore the "tiers" in your decision. You may find that you love the girls in a "top" house and that's great, as long as your decision is based on your heart not because somebody outside made you feel you had to.

I had a family friend who chose a top house at UF because her friends a year ahead of her convinced her that she needed to be in this "top" house. Now trust me, she was super friendly, fashionable and fun and had a social media presence, but she did not thrive in this house because it was not for her. She never ever felt at home. She made one close friend and basically only went there for meals. Her parents used to joke it was the most expensive meal plan!

The point is, she chose this because she was made to feel that she should choose this "top" house to have a great experience. She would tell you that she wishes she had given other houses a closer look because she ended up hardly doing anything with her house and never had a great sisterhood. Not that this top house doesn't have great girls! They just weren't HER girls...so this is the point. The tier system is artificially created over time so don't think it will make or break your experience!

There is a tier system and most top houses at universities are the initial chapters there do they get a leg up. There are of course some exceptions. Top houses generally have higher retention rates too. Not everyone will like it but these are just facts.

Pnms should look at all of this as a criteria but should also concern themselves about the sisterhood cause that really matters. Sisterhood does not come into play in the ranks at all.

You can have bottom houses with better sisterhoods than top houses and vice versa. It’s all over the map \n\n\n\n\n

Top houses are this because they over time have gotten more exposure and more attention and become more popular…and they get more recruits wanting them and haven’t make the biggest harshest cuts each round. So what happens is a lot of disappointment because girls are led to believe they should aspire to be in this house over all others. Thankfully girls will hang in and visit the other houses and realize there are great houses that aren’t as popular on media or the party circuit. Those houses will not be considered top from the outside looking in because that is not their focus or priority. So top designation is not an automatic great house for girls, it’s just the most “popular” for certain reasons.

yes, this! If girls can get past the shiny big houses and curated IG posts when they form their initial opinions, they will find amazing houses. I agree that there is a lot of disappointment in the beginning when they don't get all the top houses on their first list. That's the problem with "tiers"...they don't reflect the sisterhood or the philanthropy or the vibe of a house...it's generally based off stereotypes, social media and social events with frats.

Let's be honest, the letters alone aren't going to give you an amazing life after college. It's not going to open more doors. But what you do with your sisterhood, your philanthropy, leadership roles, volunteering, mentorship, personal growth, etc within your house to help shape you personally to become the best version of yourself, that is what matters.

So choose the sisterhood that will support your growth and where you will be happy during your years at UF...they go fast, choose wisely and with your gut.

Ranks and tiers posted on here will not help you, only ruin your recruitment experience. Trolls get on here and post all kinds of toxic stuff and spread lies. Notice all the stuff cropping up right now? Like they are trying to post helpful info, but they are not. It's all a lie and their intentions are not good. Please stay off this site!
