financial obligations?
by: PossibleFutureGator
I'm currently in my last year of high school and come from a long line of Gators. However, neither my parents (or any family members) have participated in Greek life. I come from a financially well off family but my parents refuse to pay for a sorority because to them it is not a necessity.
My question is, how much do sororities cost? Do you pay in installments of semesters, years or months? I have two friends that currently attend UF (one is a Theta and the other Tri-delt) but they have given me wishy washing answers.
I know most sorority girls tend to be generally spoiled, but my parents have always made me earn things so I have a feeling that I'll probably have to get a job(Help me Lord). Do sorority girls work? Is it possible to juggle a part-time job and a sorority?
Any answers would be much appreciated.
Go Gators!

Hi Possible Future Gator,
Yes, it is possible to balance work and sorority life. Many girls in my house work part time jobs to help them pay their college expenses. Each house will have dues of varying amounts. The largest single item will be the meal plan at the house, which is mandatory. So if your parents plan to buy a UF meal plan (I would not recommend that), I would suggest they pay for the sorority meal plan instead. New member dues are a little higher due to initiation cost. My first semester bill was $2,700 but thereafter the bill goes down to $2,000 a semester. Also, your bill may be a little higher depending on what you charge to your account (shirts, philanthropy tickets, etc) BTW $1,000 of this total is for the meal plan, which is cheaper than the UF meal plan ($1,800) plus the food is a much better:) perhaps you could use this as a selling point for mom and dad. At my house the bill is broken up into payments during the semester to make it affordable. I would definitely recommend going Greek! Good luck to you.

During the later rounds of rush they hand out little cards describing the cost per semester of each sorority. It can vary widely, for example Gamma Phi Beta just had a brand new house built so their dues were pretty high. I believe some sororities have scholarships you can apply for once you’re a member too. Good luck!👍🏻
