The chapter needs to "character build" themeselves before considering themselves a fraternity no matter how much money their alumni pump into their budget. Also, you'll find southern kids in almost every fraternity. So don't display an image your not cause you suck anyways. Don't think you're a straight shot for Kappa Alpha and then end up loving ZBT. So to answer your question, you never know until you rush. Have fun being a gdi for another year.

Pi Kapp is "new" in a sense, but a pretty different sense from "they originally chartered last year". Chapters with prominent histories at big Greek schools tend to fast-track up when they recharter, especially when they still have good alumni support and the history is fairly recent. Pike had a successful comeback quickly, and Pi Kapp's is already shaping up well based on rapid growth, decent sorority relations and solid housing plans. Certainly the kind of thing that will take a few years to stabilize (you can't typically grow too fast without a bit of riff raff), but I assume they'll probably settle down in the upper middle tier before too long,

Pi Kapp is obviously going to grow and be whatever tier their little heart desires. But you can't tell me their pledging program is valuable at all. They're going to be just like Pike. Yeah they're good looking guys, but the fact that the brothers act like pledges is ridiculous. There's a reason why girls say Pike needs to be "h worded" and why every fraternity laughs at them. Pi Kapp is exactly the same way and if Sig Ep comes back it will be the same thing. Its not their fault entirely, but I don't consider them in any way, shape, or form an actual fraternity. Theyre a bunch of gdis who made a social club with the greek alphabet. They won't ever know the true meaning of pledging a fraternity and it will forever embarass greek life.

be kind of weird for the founders who didn't have any pledgeship to speak of to really be too hard on the next guys. As time goes on, chances are they'll institute a real pledgeship. Basically every chapter has to start out the same way before they start doing things right, but I agree that saying they or Pike aren't a real fraternity is going too far.

These descriptions have been some of the most accurate I have ever seen on a site like this. When the big houses here get kicked off and rechartered, the hazing and reputation (sometimes), take a while to return. The comment about those not being hazed tend not to haze is perfect. Obviously we're all college males with drinking problems so it returns inevitably (only two houses good houses not charged with hazing this past fall were EX and SAE, Beta/Phidelt/ATO/Pike/KA all had to appeal to get spring pledge classes (all succeeded though)/

Yeah, I mean let's face it, colonies are often partially started by guys who dropped other fraternities because they couldn't take pledgeship. Those kind of guys are usually pretty emphatic about not doing it, but it slowly starts to creep in to one degree or another.

Definitely check them out when you rush. They're up and coming and looking to build a new mansion with all their alumni support. They're having socials with upper middle sororities and have a huge legacy on UF's campus. Looking optimistic after their re-chartering.

Ben Hill Griffin, the dude with his name on the football stadium, was a member of this chapter, and they have a very long history of being an upper middle and top tier fraternity a Florida. They actually have already done pretty will in just a two years or how ever long since they recolonized.

Agree with most of the top section. Kappa should be the same as ChiO, if not higher than them. AXO is down with AEPhi and Sigma Kappa. They look very similar and have socials with the same people.
