Any sisters or anyone that knows any sisters from Gamma phi beta: do you regret being a founder? Or do you enjoy it? How much are dues and would you recommend it for anyone thinking of rushing aphi next year?

joining a new chapter doesn't make you a founder, it makes you a charter member at your school. Aphi will tell you more next year, we don't have any info about them.

From what I've heard:

A lot of girls joined not expecting what they got. There's no big little, no house, no (or very few) meals, no common thread except for the fact that they are chartering. Dues are comparable to other chapters because they have to fund for a house that the chartering members may very well never see. If you have the fortune of joining as a freshman and maybe seeing the house completed, dues will skyrocket (ex DZ). Recruitment this year was very rough on gamma phi, they were very rarely (basically never) ranked out of a PNMs list of chapters to drop. A lot of girls joined gamma phi and quit because it wasn't what the expected. They are more strict and I know of a few girls who were even kicked out of gamma phi because of something they did.

So basically it's not all happiness and founding and bonding, it's rough.

They started big little in the spring because they got a spring pledge class. The colonizing members did not receive bigs, only twins. Who would've been their bigs? lol

Colonizing is tough, but DZ is a good example of a chapter that came on with no house, no traditions, etc, and eventually developed a chapter "personality" and such and took their place in the Greek system here. The upside to joining a newer chapter is you get to play a role in shaping that. Not of interest to everyone but for some people, the ability to build something is an exciting challenge. Plus, I'm sure their house will be lovely!

Of course, after over a decade, any house will have their own traditions, etc, but in the meantime colonizing is very tough. Wish there was more honesty out there during charter rush so ladies could really weigh the pros and cons before deciding what is right for them.
Plus, DZ didn't have to deal with another charter chapter nipping at their heels.

So true. I think the new house will be ready next year. I was glad when they bought the land.
