a better way to look at frat "tiers"

I think the general consensus in greek life is that tiers are really, really dumb. The tiers are mainly groupings based on location and competition for incoming freshmen. Here's an interesting grouping of frats based on actual similarities between the guys in them, the girls who hang out with them, and the freshmen they target.

SAE/ATO (southern kids)
Pike/Beta (obvi)
Phi Delt/Pilam/AEPi/TEP (SoFlo)
Sig Chi/Theta Chi/Delt
Pi Kapp/Kappa Sig
Phi Tau/Chi Phi/Delta Chi
Fiji/DU/SigEp

These aren't necessarily tiers, they're just a different (and in my opinion better) way to look at the greek system and the actual people in each frat.
