preffing at a lower tier

by:

So I'm a sophomore and I was dropped by all of my favorite houses after round 2. It put me in complete shock considering that I had great conversations and I have friends in a lot of houses. All I had left for round 3 was gamma phi and phi mu. I know that I dont see myself in gamma phi at all, and i dont know how I feel about phi mu. any thoughts on accepting a bid from phi mu? The girls there are really nice and genuine but I'm not sure if I picture myself calling their house my"home". I dont care about tiers, butI really pictured myself in a solid middle tier-- those are where I had the best conversations and always expected to be

Great sisterhood and very involved on campus. Take the bid and you can drop before initiation if you really don't like it.

Based on the comments on this site, it seems rush was especially brutal this year so Yu are not alone and are in better shape than many.

See how you feel after tonight. One of my best friends is at PhiMu. She had a similar experience last year and I can only speak to what she has told me. She is very happy that she joined their house. She has made wonderful friends (not as wonderful as me, of course) and she is very active with her sisters. They do lots of fun stuff together (like most of the houses) and there is very little drama. You won't hear many negative comments about PhiMu (if you do, carefully examine the source). Don't pay attention tier rankings they really dont mean anything. Go with an open mind tonight. There are very interesting and fun ladies in this chapter. I hope you get to meet them.
Sorry, I really dont know anyone in GP.

I'm in a very similar situation. All of my conversations with upper and middle tier houses were wonderful, but the lower tier houses weren't as good. I'm still only able to pref at lower tiers. Every sophomore I know is stuck at lower tier houses. I think the upperclassmen quota helps prevent us from being dropped, but does not help at all with getting a house we might actually want. I loved Phi Mu and would have been very happy there, but that doesn't matter if they don't work for you.

I'm a sophomore rushing for the first time this year and have lower top, high mid houses for my prefs today and they're the ones I've fallen in love with since round 1. Being an upperclassman doesn't get you dropped, it's about how you fit in with the girls at the houses.

I have ZTA and SK. Left. Had good connection to SK but am worried I will regret it if I don't put ZTA first. Thoughts? I saw myself in XO or DZ tbh

Where did you feel more at home? I know girls from both houses, and they are awesome. You will find your niche in either. Do NOT go by tiers or anything you've heard on here!

I completely feel ya! I am the original post.... it really depends on how you feel! XO was my favorite and I really saw myself there.. that's why i'm so disappointed. See how you're connections are tonight! If you really like SK more, dont care about what others think.. this is your journey

You said that you had a good connection at SK, but you didn't mention if you felt that way at ZTA.
Enjoy tonight!

I preffed at Pi Phi, AEPhi, and DDD last year and I can honestly say that you have to be selfish. This is your decision and nobody else has the right to dictate it. I went to AEPhi and I love my sisters and can't imagine being anywhere else. If someone else was faced with my decision and felt at home in DDD then I would hope they would go to DDD. Tiers don't matter. It's not that you shouldn't go to the "top tiers" (because that's just reverse prejudice..) but a tier can never replace you being comfortable and feeling at home. With that said, tonight you have a huge decision and it's not just about picking a chapter, it's about picking if you're loyal to yourself and your feelings or if you're loyal to a system that has been oppressing chapter women for years and continues to harm our fellow greek brothers and sisters.

A very similar thing happened to me. I'm going to give whatever house I get a bid to a shot, and if i don't like it I'll drop. I think you should do the same! You never know you could end up enjoying it. It does suck how rush has seemed to go for all us non-cheer/gatorette/gymnast/etc upperclassmen this year
