preffing at a lower tier
by: PNMSo I'm a sophomore and I was dropped by all of my favorite houses after round 2. It put me in complete shock considering that I had great conversations and I have friends in a lot of houses. All I had left for round 3 was gamma phi and phi mu. I know that I dont see myself in gamma phi at all, and i dont know how I feel about phi mu. any thoughts on accepting a bid from phi mu? The girls there are really nice and genuine but I'm not sure if I picture myself calling their house my"home". I dont care about tiers, butI really pictured myself in a solid middle tier-- those are where I had the best conversations and always expected to be

See how you feel after tonight. One of my best friends is at PhiMu. She had a similar experience last year and I can only speak to what she has told me. She is very happy that she joined their house. She has made wonderful friends (not as wonderful as me, of course) and she is very active with her sisters. They do lots of fun stuff together (like most of the houses) and there is very little drama. You won't hear many negative comments about PhiMu (if you do, carefully examine the source). Don't pay attention tier rankings they really dont mean anything. Go with an open mind tonight. There are very interesting and fun ladies in this chapter. I hope you get to meet them.
Sorry, I really dont know anyone in GP.

I'm in a very similar situation. All of my conversations with upper and middle tier houses were wonderful, but the lower tier houses weren't as good. I'm still only able to pref at lower tiers. Every sophomore I know is stuck at lower tier houses. I think the upperclassmen quota helps prevent us from being dropped, but does not help at all with getting a house we might actually want. I loved Phi Mu and would have been very happy there, but that doesn't matter if they don't work for you.

A very similar thing happened to me. I'm going to give whatever house I get a bid to a shot, and if i don't like it I'll drop. I think you should do the same! You never know you could end up enjoying it. It does suck how rush has seemed to go for all us non-cheer/gatorette/gymnast/etc upperclassmen this year
