houses on sorority row

by: Fj

What's the big deal with being on the row? Or being off? Does it really matter or make a difference? I heard dues are typically lower for houses off row, why?

It makes for better friendships. You're literally surrounded by the Greek community.

Without the same relationship opportunities, pi phi, kkg, and theta are at somewhat of a disadvantage in some peoples eyes.

It is hard to forget your friends and neighbors. I think there is a little bit of 'out of sight, out of mind' that goes on with the ones off the row. Kat and Pi Phi keep up enough of an active presence on campus, so that they dont get forgotten...but kkg not as much. Due to this, i think people sometimes completely forget they exist. They've been accidentally left off recent rank lists and everyone keeps forgetting they did a summer video. I dont think this is done with bad intent, it is just out of sight, out of mind.

I have lots of friends in Pi Phi (rushing this fall) and they've told me how great it is being off row. There's less drama during rush and you don't have to feel anxious walking to your house. Also a plus that they're by frat row, so it's super convenient for game days or house parties.

What do you mean "you don't have to feel anxious walking to your house"? My house is on row and I've never felt anxious walking there

What even pi phi? You shouldn't be nervous to go to your house........ It sounds like you ended up in the wrong house for you if you're feeling negatively

Personally love walking to my house on row, passing other houses. Feels safe and special to be in the heart of it all.

def prefer being off row, but honestly it's different for everyone. Being off row is really relaxing, but some people like the commotion.

I loved living on row but I'm not sure that would be a deciding factor if say my top 2 were Pi Phi and a similar 'on row' house. I would look at other factors as well in making my decision. You have to look at the total package and weigh everything out.
