self ranking question

by:

Been following greekrank and have noticed self ranking. A couple sororities stand out more than the rest. Just read on one sorority's page someone asking why their nationals hadn't taught them better. It got me wondering what sororities teach members on how to handle greekrank.

Is self ranking and fighting on greekrank addressed? Could a sorority simply not know any better? Can members get in trouble for making their sorority look bad on here? As a sister, is it ok to be on greekrank if you are being positive and helpful? is this stuff mainly individual sisters going rogue? Some of it is so badly done, I can't imagine a sorority thinking it was a good idea. I love all the helpful rush and insider info on here, and want to understand, if you respond, please be nice.

These are good questions. Guess this might vary by chapter, but my chapter definitely discussed this and social media in general. Afterall, now you are not just representing yourself, but your whole chapter. We were encouraged to not get involved in the negativity and self ranking on here. We are not banned from coming on here or anything, but we were told about some of the pitfalls. I think most of us have taken the advice and are not involved in a whole lot of drama on here. If a chapter has not discussed it and/or other social media issues, i find that surprising and think it is a good idea to talk about it.

What do they tell you about social media? Thanks for the reply, really helpful!

Our chapter does something similar, and I had assumed all other chapters do too, but after reading some stuff on here today, I am starting to think maybe not! ;) anyway, some of the stuff that is gone over regarding social media is pretty straightforward. mainly being careful with what type of pictures you post involving sisters, boys and partying. And, always being aware when wearing your letters that you are representing your sisterhood. Stuff like that. As a pnm, i would go through your social media and make sure there isnt anything embarrassing that you wouldnt want an interested chapter to see. Best wishes to you!
