what is it like to rush as a sophomore?

by: PNM

How is the experience different than if you're a freshman? When you accept a bid are you treated as a freshman? Are there a lot of sophomores who rush? Also, will I be able to make friends my age or will the groups have already been established?

I didn't know much about Greek life last year but I feel like I'm ready to try it out now... Kind of insecure about being a sophomore though because I'm not looking to relive my freshman year. Any advice or answers to the questions above would be appreciated :)

I feel like rushing as a sophomore is actually pretty great. You can relate to the girls rushing you better, you know how to act/dress better, and you're the youngest of the upperclassmen which gives you somewhat of an advantage. As far as the actual year goes, you get to be sort of the older, wiser, mother type thing of your pledge class that will be mostly freshmen, which I'd view as a positive as it gives more opportunities for leadership (whether official title or unofficial role). Many people have great experiences rushing as sophomores and I'm sure you will too!

What if you're really pretty, have a friendly vibe, and are pretty trendy but you're a transfer junior....I really want to join one but never had the chance to rush before!

This is the perfect explanation! I rushed as a sophomore and got into a top house that I love. I feel like it wouldn't have been as good for me to rush freshman year... Some people like to know what's outside of greek life before rushing and that's ok.

It'll be a great experience for you, good luck!

Junior transfers should be fine/have a similar situation as well! Only disadvantage is that you're older so a lot of times houses will take a sophomore over a junior, but it shouldn't be too huge of an issue and I'm sure you'll still find your home. If you went to Santa Fe and made friends with UF girls in sororities it can help because they already know/like you.

Utilize your friendships with girls already greek and make more friendships with greek girls. Get to know them and their chapters as much as you can. It can help you get familiar with them and if you already have friends in a house it can really be in your favor. Do nottttt name drop during recruitment though! Also, talk about your involvement last year, show them how you're already doing great and can be an asset. Really just use the fact that you've been around and are established.
