What advice would you give to freshman going through sorority recruitment that you wish you would have known?

Sometimes it is better to wait until sophomore year to attend recruitment. This comes from a person whose extended family is very greek-letter oriented.

Waiting until second semester, COB/informal, or even second year formal recruitment is not the end of the world at Louisville. It allows a student time to learn best collegiate study and friendship practices, habits that will stand them in good stead in the future, without the pressures and time constraints of sorority pledgeship. We also have DG coming onto campus soon, providing an extra group to look upon and evaluate before becoming a pnm.

This person must not be Greek. Rush as early as possible or I promise you will regret it later when you have to graduate before your pledge class

Graduating college is a huge accomplishment for any Louisville student. Whether you graduate with, behind or ahead of your fraternal pledge class is not an imperative life consideration. Students often change majors/minors and experience financial/family setbacks to graduation. No sorority forces women to graduate all at one time with their pledge class only.

Just be yourself and don't try to oversell it. Focus on getting ready for the few weeks leading up to recruitment and you'll be fine. Don't go in hoping to get a bid from one specific chapter, keep your options open and consider all the factors at play

Is it important for me to get recs for every house? Thanks

If you can get them that's fine but if you can't it's not a big deal at all

As a freshman you may not be acquainted with many on-campus students. This means the first time a sorority chapter meets you will be during a very limited time frame. Garnering recs during in Spring/early Summer before recruitment from initiated sorority women whom you know can be an easy way of introduction to a chapter and gives you the bonus of having met/impressed sorority members long prior to regular formal recruitment. Each NPC group has their own private criteria toward rec importance, so do what you can to get them and keep an open mind toward accepting all recruitment invitations from any NPC group.
