overwhelmingly white
by: WhyWhy are there so few people of color in Greek life? I look at the makeup of the sororities and fraternities on campus, and it looks overwhelmingly white to me. As a person of color, this is a little bit concerning to me. I see the benefits of rush, but I want to feel accepted and not feel "different."

as someone of color that is also part of greek life, you just have to accept that the genetic makeup of lafayette is generally white, especially in the realm of people that like to drink/party. however, people are more accepting than you'd think, and any feelings of being "different" may be self-inflicted. definitely rush and see where you feel most comfortable, and at the end of the day, if it's not for you, it's not for you.

would rather not say, but I can assure you there is no explicit pressure to adjust the way you dress or act; however, the sometimes-present-groupthink-mentality of a greek organization does foster some assimilation and adjustment. but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I am heavily influenced by those in my organization and feel that I have grown a lot by being around them. just remember that it's quite an admirable trait to be able to embrace yourself and your culture, and nobody, at school or in greek life, is going to shy away from you or try change you for doing that.

I think this a common concern and part of the reason why there aren’t so many POC in Greek life. I think a lot of people shy away because there aren’t as many POC, which in turn keeps that number down. I think a lot of organizations have low diversity in members because there’s low diversity in the group of people who are rushing. Kind of a viscous cycle
