to fraternities, from sororities

Posting this on GreekRank because I know lots of younger/new members visit this page and i’m hoping to reach them specifically!
As a senior in an involved house at K State, I feel I have a very good grip on what greek life is like here (specifically the fraternity reputations among the sororities). After watching the anti hazing presentation tonight, I wanted to emphasize their message by relating it to what I know is true about fraternities at K State, especially to younger men and women reading this post. I’m gonna be honest: We all know who hazes, we always will find out who hazes, and we always will associate less with and purposely avoid houses that haze their pledges. Whatever your party reputation, every sorority woman I know is SO much less likely to sleep with, party with, or even be friends with men in hazing houses. If you can’t have respect for your own brothers, how could a random girl possibly be sure of her safety with you, especially if she’s intoxicated? Looking back at patterns of houses that have been kicked off campus at KSU, KU, and MU, one common theme is they were all top “party” or generally popular houses that sorority women already warned each other to stay away from. Yes, your fraternity might be extremely secretive, but i’ve seen my male friends who previously told me hazing didn’t happen get drunk and let it all out. Sorority women at KSU are related to, dating, or friends with all your friends at other schools, and we have a way of knowing what’s going on. I’m so proud to hear younger women in my chapter make lists of houses they plan to avoid partying at to strike against the hazing they’ve heard about from their male friends, and I just wanted to make it apparent that everyone knows hazing houses are sloppy, unsafe, and will be kicked off in the next ten years for sure. The best way to earn the respect you want from your pledges is to show that same respect to them first.
