rushing

by: WestCoastFellow

Everyone: I'll be attending K-STATE this fall and will be rushing. I'm wondering if I should anticipate anything odd because I'm not a local (I'm from Los Angeles) and have NO connections to Kansas State or the local Greek community at all. Any thoughts ?

Not sure how they do rush exactly on the West Coast, but at K-State rush is extremely no frills--meaning that houses don't do skits, can't give out food or drinks (besides water), can't even do themes for days or special decor or anything. Rush at K-State isn't as intense as in the South--recommendations are a plus but aren't a necessity and a lot of houses don't treat their legacies any differently than anyone else (except for the courtesy invite back after Round 1).

There are a couple of houses where if you know no one it could hurt your chances to get in (Pi Phi especially for some reason seems to recruit girls that already know someone in the house or have some other type of connection). For most houses being from LA will be an advantage because you'll immediately have something that makes you stand out and it'll be a great talking point. Also a lot of houses tend to want out of state girls.

Honestly at K-State recruitment is more about high school grades, involvement, and leadership, looks, and just how friendly and easy to talk to you are! It's less about who you know going in and more about the conversations you're having during rush.
