bids

Do the sororities at uri try to make sure that almost every PNM gets a bid to a sorority? Or is it very difficult to get a bid?

At any school with NPC sororities, they have specific rules to follow. Panhel doesn't want to make this difficult for anyone.

Sororities have a specific number of PNMs they can invite back each round (based on a few factors including how in demand they have been in the past few recruitments). PNMs have the best chance of getting a bid if they "maximize their options"--go back to the maximum number of houses they can each round. The reason many PNMs don't get bids at any school is because they get their hearts set on certain houses, get cut from those houses, and decide they don't want to continue the process. Many PNMs give the whole process a chance and end up loving the house they get bid to, even if it wasn't love at first sight.

Thank you that was actually very helpful!! Will everyone get a bid at the end of recruitment, even if the sorority that gives them a bid isn't their initial top choice?

It can happen that some people get dropped completely, but it's not common (tbh you'd have to be a complete social mess, have terrible grades, or some sort of nasty personal history for that to happen). More often it's the PNM who isn't happy with who they are left with and drops at some point.... Which is silly, because all of the sororities at URI are good, for different reasons. Anyone that joins Greek life is gonna have fun and make friends.

If you go to more than one house for preference, you'll get a bid to one of them.

there were over 700 girls that rushed last fall and probably going to be more this year so it's not likely that every woman will get a bid but the majority will

Quota is determined by the number of PNMs attending preference round. The number of PNMs signed up doesn't decrease the number of available spots, the PNMs DETERMINE the number of spots. Theoretically if 1000 PNMs went to preference rounds at our ten sororities and listed at least two options on their pref card, 1000 would get bids with a theoretical quota of 200. It doesn't matter if there are 10 or 1000, there can't be "two many" PNMs.

Women drop because they get cut by the houses they picture themselves being in, and have preconceived notions about the houses that kept them. Some girls do get dropped completely by all sororities but it's not common.

Quota would be 100, not 200! Wish you could edit on here!
