upperclassmen?

by: Unsure

Is it true that not every sorority will take an upperclassman? Which sororities will not take sophomores? I really want to rush but I'd just like to know ahead of time, thanks :-)

They all will if they think you will be a good addition to the house! No specific houses will and will not take upperclassman. Go through rush and let them all give you a chance and you'll find your home!

I am an Aphi and my pledge class had a few sophomores last fall...like any sorority we don't take half upper class girls but we always take some. Give every sorority a chance

Well I don't want to be a part of a sorority that would be ignorant in caring about something as menial as that anyways :-) Your loss SDT, an intellect and a beaut.

They way recruitment works, houses have to cut a certain number of girls each day. Some use a GPA cut off or cut all upperclassmen. It's not personal, just how the process works.

GPA makes sense, considering we are here to go to school... I have a 3.5. But year? Honestly? I'm not sure who came up with that. If I was in charge, that wouldn't be an object. If anything, a sophomore would be more beneficial than a freshman because they are familiarized with college life, presumably Greek life as well, and understand the expectations of college.

Again, it's not a specific rule, it's just how some (not all) houses do things. Most sororities want to keep a fairly balanced number of members in each class. And they may have to cut a LOT of girls after first round. I'm sure members probably push for really awesome sophomores to come back. But if they've got 600 girls first round, and they can invite 400 back, they need to cut on a larger scale so they can really focus on the people they're considering.

Don't worry about that right now, or have a preconceived notion that a house will be cutting you because of your age. Just go through the experience and be yourself.
