This has been addressed a lot in other posts. Sophomores can and do get bids, but it is more competitive because most houses want freshmen.
Have excellent grades, be involved on campus, be social and attractive, and be yourself.
"Top" houses are less likely to bid sophomores unless they are incredible. Keep and open mind and meet all the houses. What's "top" and what's the right place for you can be two very different things.
